Two men seriously injured in East Garfield Park scaffolding collapse – Chicago Tribune

Two men were hospitalized Monday afternoon with serious injuries after scaffolding collapsed outside a residential building in East Garfield Park, according to Chicago fire officials.

The structure collapsed about 1 p.m. in the 3300 block of West Warren Boulevard on the city’s West Side, leaving debris littering the sidewalk, street and on parked cars.

The cause of the collapse was not immediately known. The building was under construction. The owner received a permit Jan. 20 to replace a 3-inch beam on the side of the home and perform grinding, tuckpointing and stone replacement work, according to city records.

Officials from Chicago’s fire and police departments were on the scene Monday. Rescuers said two men were rushed to Stroger Hospital with serious injuries.
