Three more children have died of adenovirus in West Bengal, India. All of them were under treatment at BC Roy Hospital in Kolkata with fever and respiratory symptoms. The three children died from Friday night to Saturday afternoon.

According to BC Roy Hospital, one of the dead is a resident of Dum Dum. The baby named Ryan Ghazi is only 11 months old. Aradhya Chattopadhyay, a resident of Hatiyara, is only 2 months and 15 days old. Another child is Nadia Kalyani, only 6 months old.

Earlier, four children died in West Bengal from Thursday night to Friday evening. All of them are less than two years old. All of them were under treatment at BC Roy Hospital.

Pediatricians say that the children who are already infected and admitted to the hospital are slowly recovering. However, deaths still occur among children treated in critical care units. According to a doctor, the number of new arrivals of critically ill patients has decreased. Therefore, he hopes that the situation will be normal in a few weeks.

Although the West Bengal government has not given any official information about the death due to adenovirus, private sources have said that the number of children who died of acute respiratory infection in the state from January 1 to Saturday (March 4) is 82. Some of them are infected with adenovirus.

However, an official of the West Bengal Health Department said that respiratory infections are not only caused by adeno. Any viral infection can cause it. So it is not right to say that everyone died of adeno. Again, several had serious comorbidities.
