The number of endangered species of wildlife in China has increased steadily over the past 10 years. Besides, the country has made significant progress in wildlife protection. The National Forest and Grassland Administration released the information ahead of the 10th World Wildlife Day on Friday.

Those concerned say that during this time, the number of endangered species of wildlife including giant panda, Asian elephant, Amur tiger, leopard, Hainan owl and dove has increased. The country has gradually established a wildlife protection system to protect the most important and essential wildlife resources of the natural ecosystem.

Chinese lawmakers voted to adopt a revised wildlife protection law in December last year, which will take effect on May 1 this year. Apart from this, the country has promised to take stricter measures against wildlife trafficking.

Wan Chiming, deputy director of the Wildlife Conservation Division under the National Forest and Grassland Administration, said, ‘Recent survey and monitoring results show that the number of terrestrial wildlife species continues to increase as a result of the continuous expansion and improvement of wildlife habitats under national protection’.
