‘The Bachelor’ Season 27, Episode 4 Recap: Who Went Home? Who Got A One-On-One Date?

[ad_1]

After The Bachelor Season 27’s most dramatic week yet, Zach Shallcross and his remaining contestants sought out a fresh restart by ditching the mansion and heading to the Bahamas. But would you believe us if we told you those gorgeous crystal waters and tropical beaches weren’t powerful enough to stop this group from creating more chaos? (It’s true.)

In Week 4, Shallcross slipped on his Hawaiian shirt and had two intimate one-on-one dates, an eventful group date, a cocktail party, and a rose ceremony. It’s clear he’s starting to form deep connections with the contestants, but troubling accusations made in Episode 4 (and a whole lot of talk about Instagram followers) reminded Shallcross of his biggest fear: falling for someone who is — wait for it — here for the wrong reasons. Emotions were undoubtedly high this week, but as Shallcross said, “We’re in the Bahamas, baby!”

Looking for a recap of The Bachelor Season 27, Episode 4? Wondering who snagged the two one-on-one dates? How the group date went? And who went home? We’ve got you covered. But be warned, spoilers for The Bachelor are ahead.

Date 1 Recap: Zach Shallcross and Katherine “Kat” Izzo’s One-On-One

The first one-on-one date card — which read, “How deep is our love?” — went to Katherine “Kat” Izzo, a 26-year-old registered nurse from Tampa, Florida. When Izzo met Shallcross for their date, he made the first of many dorky comments this episode by loudly declaring, “I’m just a Bahama Papa looking for his Bahama Mama.” Sir.

The two hopped onto a boat for a date that was endearing and at times painfully awkward. In between shots of the two SPF-ing each other, kissing, dancing, snorkeling, and acknowledging Shallcross’ chest hair (AGAIN), production inserted interviews of Shallcross explaining that Izzo is out of his league.

“Kat literally looks like a model and I’ve never dated a model. She’s so fun and great to be around, but it’s almost like a little of me asks why is she here? Like you’re really dating me? Like…me!?” he told the camera. Shallcross has already been dubbed “The Boring Bachelor” by fans, but in this episode, he also presents himself as one of the dorkiest, most unassuming leads in franchise history. Sure, it can be cringey at times. But it’s also refreshing!

Shallcross and Izzo met up at night for a romantic dinner where she opened up about why she’s her fearful she won’t find love with Shallcross. “He comes from a very traditional background, and I don’t. And it does make me worried. Is he still gonna like me? Is he still gonna want to pursue me? That was a fear of mine — that he’s not gonna want me because of it,” Izzo told cameras.

Shallcross is one of many contestants in this franchise’s history who has openly idolized his parents’ marriage or used successful relationships witnessed while growing up as a benchmark when looking for love. But not everyone has those, and as Izzo said, hearing about that stability can be both “comforting” and “scary” because of “the fear of being judged on the difference in upbringings.”

“My mom and I struggled in our relationship and there was a point where I didn’t even live at home because [it] got so bad. That’s not something I share very often,” she told Shallcross. “I want that traditional family. I want to have what I didn’t have as a kid…but it scares me, because I see where you come from and I admire it so much, but [I’m] scared that someone like you who has such a healthy upbringing and understanding of what it is to feel love won’t find love with me.”

“This means a lot, and I don’t want you to have that fear. I want to love my person for who they are, not where they came from or what their family used to do,” Shallcross said. “You deserve someone that will love you for you.”

He thanked Izzo for being so honest and vulnerable, kissed her, and offered her the rose. Izzo accepted, and told cameras, “I am falling for this man harder than I ever thought I would and I love it.” Meanwhile, Shallcross said he’s “more excited than I ever could have imagined” for what’s to come for him and Izzo, and explained, “Kissing Kat — it’s like two meteors perfectly colliding and creating a star. It’s fireworks!” After that comment, a quintessential Bachelor fireworks show began and the two started making out as the night sky exploded with color.

‘Damn it. She got fireworks,’ the women back at the hotel said. They raced out to the balcony to watch and collectively stress over their man being on a date with another woman.

Did Kat Izzo Get A Rose? You bet.

Date 2 Recap: A Dramatic Group Date Fish Fry

Shallcross invited Aly, Kaity, Ariel, Davia, Genevie, Anastasia, Kylee, Mercedes, Charity, Gabi, Jess, and Greer on a refreshingly chill group date with a card that read, “It’s time to turn up the heat.”

Acknowledging that the past few group dates have been “fast-paced and a little scary,” Shallcross told the women they’d spend a relaxing day eating, drinking, and exploring the island. It sounded like a dream for everyone except Gabi, because Gabi is allergic to shellfish. Everyone spent the date chowing down on shellfish, including Shallcross, who Gabi was unable to smooch for fear of an allergic reaction.

If that wasn’t torturous enough, the group part of the group date was derailed during a game of limbo when Anastasia asked if she could steal Shallcross away for a chat. The women were frustrated that the vibes shifted, with Kylee in particular annoyed by the bold move. After giving Anastasia some time with Shallcross, Kylee walked over and tried to steal him away, but Anastasia asked for more time. Kylee didn’t back down and made a comment about not wanting to fight Anastasia for the chance to chat with Shallcross. Anastasia finally walked away, telling Kylee, “I’m not going to fight you.”

That quick comment sparked the bulk of the episode’s drama. After Anastasia left Shallcross, she started telling all the girls that Kylee she felt “attacked” because Kylee wanted to physically fight her. When Kylee returned, she said that wasn’t the case and felt Anastasia was trying to “start shit.”

The tension carried over to the afterparty, where Kylee brought the incident up to Shallcross. She added that Charity once overheard Anastasia talking about how many Instagram followers she would get from being on the show, and Shallcross said, “That freaks me the fuck out. That’s something I don’t stand for. And I’m terrified that I would end up with someone who was here for the wrong reasons and is really not there to love me and have a future but is there for fame.”

Shallcross confronted all of the women on the date and explained, “I’m giving my all to be here and it’s getting hard and I heard some stuff tonight and I don’t know what to assume yet but there may be someone here for the wrong intention.” He pulled Anastasia and asked her point-blank, “Are you really here for me?” She claimed she was and said, “I’m shocked. Truly. I’m at a point in my life where I’m ready to find my partner.” As for the Instagram comments, she said she was talking about the platform because she works with a lot of brands and promised to connect the women and share contacts.

“I take this shit so fucking seriously,” Shallcross said, reiterating that his ultimate fear is someone who “says the right things to the point where I get fooled at the end of this.”

When Anastasia returned to the group, her exact comment was revealed: “The 14 of us who are still here will at least have 50k Instagram followers.” She claimed the words were taken out of context, and when Shallcross returned he simply handed out his group date rose to “someone who reminds me why I’m doing it and makes me feel good and excited.”

Date 3 Recap: Zach Shallcross and Brooklyn Willie’s One-On-One

The second one-on-one date of Week 4 went to Brooklyn Willie, a 25-year-old rodeo racer from Stillwater, Oklahoma. The two kicked off the day by exploring the island on ATVs and spending some quality time getting to know each other better on a secluded beach. The day was going swimmingly until Brooklyn tried to fist bump Zach after a kiss, a move that made him question her romantic interest in him so deeply that he brought it up again later at dinner. But the latter portion of Willie and Shallcross’ date took on a much more serious tone when she opened up about a past abusive relationship.

In the emotional segment, which prompted a domestic violence/viewer discretion advised warning card from the show, Willie opened up in response to him celebrating her confidence. “I appreciate that, because if you would have met me a year ago I wasn’t that way,” she explained. “I didn’t want to marry someone like my dad or be involved with anyone like my dad, and I did find myself in a relationship where I was with someone just like my dad, and it got very out of hand…very emotionally abusive.”

Willie explained that the relationship pushed her to the point of not speaking. “I mean I was a shell of the person I was. And it got to a point where it got physical, and so for six whole years I was not myself,” she continued. “And I woke up one day and I was like, ‘No. This can’t define me.’ And I truly believe if I wouldn’t have woken up and got out — I can literally guarantee I wouldn’t be sitting here right now, whether that was my choice or not. I literally had to pull strength that I didn’t even know I had and just get out. And I did. And I never looked back.”

Shallcross told Willie that she’s gone through battles he couldn’t begin to imagine and is “so fucking tough.” He told cameras he was at a loss for words and “blown away” by what a “badass” she is before offering her the rose. She accepted, and they spent the rest of the night dancing and enjoying live music.

Did Brooklyn Willie Get A Rose? You bet.

The Bachelor Season 27, Episode 4 Cocktail Party Recap:

The group gathered at the hotel for their first Bahamas cocktail party, and Shallcross kicked things off with a speech. “This week was incredible…I saw so much bravery and vulnerability. I’ve asked for honesty since Day 1, and it’s only fair that I am honest with you. What’s most important is at the end of the day I’m following my heart and gut in this,” he said. “With that being said, Anastasia can I talk to you?”

The two headed upstairs and Anastasia said she had a hard two days, that her character and integrity are everything to her, and that she was upset Shallcross had doubt in her. Shallcross said he couldn’t discredit the possibility of ulterior motives, and the two got into a disagreement that we didn’t get to see unfold. Instead, we saw Shallcross escorting Anastasia out to the car. It’s unclear if he asked her to leave or she self-eliminated, but after Anastasia went home, Kylee started crying and told cameras she didn’t want to be “collateral damage.”

Shallcross spent the rest of the cocktail party catching up with Charity, Kat, and others about non-Kylee/Anastasia drama. But before Kylee could get one-on-one time with him, Jesse Palmer walked in and declared the cocktail party OVER.

Rose Ceremony Recap: Who Went Home on The Bachelor Season 27, Episode 4?

After Palmer left the room, Kylee broke down in tears…again. “I think you’ll all be moving on without me,” she told the women. “I did it to myself so I can’t be mad at anyone.” She debated whether or not to skip the rose ceremony, but in the end she attended and received Shallcross’ final rose of the night.

So who went home in Episode 4? These three women:

Next up? The group is heading to London. But from the looks of Episode 5’s preview — which shows Shallcross crying, video chatting Jesse Palmer, and everyone involved with the show scrambling for a fix — major drama lies ahead.
