‘Teen Wolf’ Series Recap: What to Remember Before Watching ‘Teen Wolf: The Movie’

[ad_1]

The MTV series Teen Wolf is getting a sequel—Teen Wolf: The Movie, premiering on Paramount+ tomorrow—and it seems creator Jeff Davis is determined to confuse everyone.

Directed by Russell Mulcahy, who was a key director on the series, and written by Davis, Teen Wolf: The Movie picks up 13 years after we last saw werewolf Scott McCall and his wolf pack. Before we get into this, let me start by saying even if you were a religious viewer of the series, Teen Wolf: The Movie does not make sense. Major characters were cut, either because the actors weren’t given the leeway to fit it into their schedules (which is what happened to Dylan O’Brien, who played Stiles) or because they were offered less than half the pay of their co-stars (which is what happened to Arden Cho, who played Kira).

On top of that, major storylines are either ignored or rewritten entirely. Endgame couples are unceremoniously split up. Beloved characters are killed off. Overall, Teen Wolf: The Movie feels like the kind of sequel that fans will either studiously ignore, or simply not accept as canon.

That all said, there are some things you’ll want to remember from the series before you dive into the movie. Teen Wolf: The Movie doesn’t bother with much of a series refresher before jumping into its own convoluted plot, so if you bailed after (spoiler alert!) Allison was killed off in Season 3, here’s what you need to know.

What happened to Stiles at the end of Teen Wolf?

The last time we saw Stiles in Season 6 of Teen Wolf, he had come back from a purgatory dimension after briefly being erased from reality. But don’t worry, that trip to another dimension cured his anxiety! He finally was forthright with Lydia about how he felt, and the two of them ended the show in a romantic relationship together. In the series finale, he helped the wolf pack defeat the big bads, (the Anuk-ite, a supernatural demon; and Gerard Argent, Allison’s grandfather), and the implication was that he will continue to be part of the wolf pack moving forward, despite the fact that he’s not a werewolf.

How did Allison die on Teen Wolf?

Allison Argent was killed off in Season 3 of Teen Wolf, after actor Crystal Reed booked a job on Gotham and left the show. Originally, Allison had been Scott’s love interest in Season 1. They were super in love and dated, until they found out that Allison hailed from a long line of werewolf hunters, which was unfortunate because Scott was a werewolf. They broke up, and Allison started dating a character named Isaac instead, who was also a werewolf. (Isaac does not appear in the movie.)

Scott and Allison still aren’t together in Season 3, when the gang is fighting the big bads known as the Oni, who are supernatural demon warriors skilled in martial arts combat. In the final episode of the season, “Insatiable,” Allison saved Isaac’s life by shooting an arrow at the Oni, who were attacking him. But then, out of nowhere, another Oni appeared and stabs Allison with a sword. Scott rushed to her side and held her in his arms while she dies. With her last breath, Allison said, “It’s perfect,” she said. “I’m in the arms of my first love. The first person I’ve ever loved. The person I’ve always loved. I love you … Scott McCall.”

Who is Liam Dunbar from Teen Wolf?

Liam Dunbar is a Beacon Hills High School student who first appears in Season 4. He ends up being the first “beta werewolf” of Scott McCall’s pack, when Scott is forced to give Liam the werewolf bite in order to save his life. Liam, along with his human best friend Mason Hewitt (Khylin Rhambo), is one of the most loyal members of Scott’s pack by the end of the series.

Who is Hikari Zhang from Teen Wolf?

Hikari Zhang is a new character created for the Teen Wolf movie, played by Amy Lin Workman. She seems to be a pseudo-replacement for Kira, who does not appear in the film, as explained above. Hikari, like Kira, controls a fox spirit. She works with Liam and is another member of Scott’s pack.

Who is Malia Tate from Teen Wolf?

Malia Tate was a supporting character first introduced in Season 3, and then became a main character in later seasons. She is the birth daughter of werewolf Peter Hale, Derek Hale’s cousin, and a “werecoyote.” She was in a serious romantic relationship with Scott, as well as being a member of his pack, at the end of the series.

Who is Jordan Parrish from Teen Wolf?

Deputy Jordan Parrish (played by Ryan Kelley) was a minor character in Seasons 3 – 6 of Teen Wolf. He’s an officer at the Beacon County Sheriff’s Station, where he works with Stiles’ dad, Noah Stilinski. In Season 4, it’s revealed that Jordan is also a supernatural creature: a hellhound. Though not officially a member of Scott’s pack, he’s an ally and uses his hellhound superpowers to help fight the big bad in Season 6.

What happened to Jackson on Teen Wolf?

Though he was really only a character for the first two seasons of the show, Jackson, played by Colton Haynes, was a fan-favorite of Teen Wolf. Originally, he was the jock/bully who torments Scott and Stiles, in an ’80s teen movie sort of way. He was also Lydia’s original boyfriend, though he later came out as gay and began dating Ethan.

Like most of the characters on this show, he’s not human. His transformation into a werewolf is corrupted by emotional baggage, so instead, he becomes a Kanima, which is essentially a scary lizard creature. He reunites with Lydia in the Season 6 series finale, and he comes out to the pack as gay, and reveals Ethan is his boyfriend.

Who is Adrian Harris from Teen Wolf?

Adrian Harris was a minor character on the first three seasons of Teen Wolf, and a mean chemistry teacher at Beacon Hills High. In Season 3, it was revealed that Adrian had been working with a supernatural villain to help the big bad kill Scott and his friends. Adrian was tied to the tree by a mysterious villain and begged for his life, saying, “I did everything. They’re going to figure this out and they’re going to find you. You still need me.” Adrian appears to be killed by this mysterious figure, and he doesn’t appear on the show again.

Who are the Anuk-Ite on Teen Wolf?

The Anuk-Ite are evil supernatural entities that serve as the villain of Season 6. Before they were released in Beacon Hills in Season 6, they had been locked away by the hellhound Halwyn since 1912. Like werewolves, Anuk-Ite are supernatural beings that can be contained using Mountain Ash, which is how our heroes finally defeated them in the big finale.

What is the Eichen House in Teen Wolf?

The Eichen House is a mental health facility and former war hospital in Beacon Hills, that attracts a lot of evil stuff in Teen Wolf. It doubles as a prison ward for supernatural beings, guarded by a hellhound, Halwyn.
