A gunman opened fire outside a Ukrainian Village Mariano’s on Sunday two weeks after a 27-year-old man was shot to death in the store’s parking lot.

The shooter fired at a 31-year-old man who was loading items into a car at 5:40 p.m. in the 2000 block of West Chicago Avenue, police said. The targeted man was not hit and only his car was damaged, police said.

Police have not apprehended anyone and are still investigating.

Officers investigate the scene where shots were fired but no one was struck at a Mariano’s grocery store in the 2000 block of West Chicago Avenue on Jan. 1, 2023, in Chicago.

On Dec. 19, a man was shot in the head while sitting in his car in the Mariano’s parking lot in late afternoon, authorities said. The man was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Two people drove up in an unknown vehicle, exited and fired guns at him, police said. Police are still investigating the December shooting.
