A stalled train was evacuated after the Chicago Transit Authority released an alert about a temporary suspension of service on the Brown and Purple lines due to a power outage Tuesday afternoon.
Maddie Kilgannon, a CTA spokesperson, said there was a reported loss of power near Merchandise Mart around 4:40 p.m. Service was temporarily down on the Brown line between Armitage and the Loop and on the Purple line express service between Howard and the Loop.
The cause of the power outage was not immediately known.

“We are working to restore service as quickly as possible,” Kilgannon said around 7 p.m.
She said one northbound train on the Brown Line near the Merchandise Mart was the only train to be stalled as a result of the power outage.

The Chicago Fire Department responded to the power outage and helped evacuate over 100 people from the stalled train to the Merchandise Mart station, according to the Fire Department’s Twitter account.
Spokesperson Larry Merritt said shortly after 7 p.m. that the Fire Department was “wrapping up” from the scene, and there were no transports or injuries reported.
