Russia’s top corona vaccine scientist killed

A top scientist who helped develop the coronavirus vaccine Sputnik 5 has been killed. His body was found in his apartment in Moscow, Russia on Saturday.

Russia’s Investigative Committee has launched an investigation into the murder. The name of the murdered scientist is Andrey Batikov. In 2020, he was one of the 18 people working on the Sputnik 5 vaccine for the corona virus.

He was strangled to death with a belt in his apartment in northwest Moscow. A 29-year-old man has been arrested for murdering the scientist.

The investigative committee says they found the suspect in the shortest possible time. He wanted to flee from the scene.

The committee said that the suspect confessed to the crime during interrogation. The committee also said that this accused is accused of another heinous crime.

Russian media say the suspect’s name is Alexei Z. He was jailed for 10 years for a crime.

Andrey Batikov was a senior researcher at the National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology. Before that he was the Russian State Collection of Viruses D.I. Ivanovsky was a senior scientist at the Institute of Virology.

He was awarded the Order of Merit for the Fatherland for his contribution to the development of the Sputnik 5 vaccine.
