The Russian offensive is putting increasing pressure on Ukrainian troops and civilians in Bakhmut. Civilians are trying to evacuate.

And Ukrainian soldiers are helping them in this.

Qatar-based media Al Jazeera reported this information on Saturday (March 4).

Ukrainian troops aiding civilians said a woman was killed in shelling as she tried to cross a makeshift bridge outside Bakhmut on Saturday. Two men were seriously injured.

A Ukrainian military representative told The Associated Press news agency on condition of anonymity that it is now too dangerous for civilians to leave the city in vehicles. Instead they had to flee on foot.

Bakhmut has been the target of Moscow’s attacks for the past few months. Russian troops as well as large forces of Wagner’s group had already approached the city.

Yevgeny Prigozhin, head of the Wagner Group, said on Friday that his fighters had “virtually surrounded” Bakhmut. In the latest video, Prigozhin calls on Zelensky to leave the city.
