Norridge police are investigating a severe beating that sent a 78-year-old man to the hospital after three assailants came to the back door of his home April 28 and at least one attacked him behind his garage, a department spokesperson said.

Security video from the victim’s home shows three male suspects approaching the back door of the home, sliding open the door, and then apparently seeing the victim inside and fleeing to go behind the garage, said Sgt. Brian Loughran of the Norridge Police Department.

The video shows the victim exiting his house to see what was going on, finding nothing and then going behind the garage, where he was attacked by at least one of the assailants, Loughran described. The victim then came back into the yard after the beating and called for his wife to phone authorities.

“This wasn’t random; this was targeted,” Loughran said, adding one of the suspects is known to the family of the victim. A judge has issued a nationwide no-bond warrant for that suspect for aggravated battery, great bodily harm and a victim over 60 years of age.

Norridge police are in communication with law enforcement agencies in California where they believe the suspect may have gone to stay with family members, as well as the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force, Loughran said.

The victim was released from the hospital Monday, he added.
