A mother and her teenage daughter were discovered dead alongside their dog in a horrific scene inside their Brooklyn home Monday, police said.

The bodies of the 37-year-old woman and her 14-year-old daughter were discovered inside their New York Avenue home in the borough’s Little Haiti section around 4:30 p.m. when a friend went to check on the family after not hearing from them since Friday, according to police and sources.

The mother’s body was found face up in the living room with a slash wound to the face, while her daughter was found face down with head trauma, law enforcement sources said.

Their dog’s body was next to them with a bag over its head, according to the sources.

A police source described the murder scene as particularly gruesome and bloody.

Authorities were called to the location by a witness who dialed 911 after hearing screams before the bodies were discovered. It’s unclear when that call was made.

Police are investigating the deaths.
