Jets’ Breece Hall looked like old self in injury return

Breece the Beast is back.

No rust. No diminished speed. No limitations.

A question mark to even be active in Week 1 after suffering a torn right ACL last October, Hall was a major positive in the team’s 22-16 win over the AFC East rival Bills in overtime at MetLife Stadium on Monday.

Hall had 147 total yards, including an 83-yard run in his return from injury and a 26-yard dash on the offense’s first play from scrimmage.

He had burst.

He made defenders miss.

He looked like the player that was on his way to winning Offensive Rookie of the Year honors before that season-ending injury last Oct. 23.

At the time, Hall had scored five touchdowns and notched 681 total yards.

As promised, the Jets mixed and matched with Hall and newcomer Dalvin Cook.

They used them both as runners and receivers.

Cook notched 33 yards on the ground on 13 carries and 26 yards through the air.

“As long as we’re winning, we’re both going to be fine,” Hall said in the lead-up to the game. “We’re both some of the top playmakers on this roster, so I think there’s going to be enough footballs to go around.”

Hall, a 2022 second-round pick out of Iowa State, started training camp on the physically unable to perform list.

That, the Jets said, was the plan all along.

To bring him along slowly.

He came off the PUP list on Aug. 15 and didn’t appear in any preseason games.

But he was out there Monday night, and made big plays.

“We have a plan,” coach Robert Saleh, referring to Hall’s usage before the game. “I’m not going to talk about it here, but there’s going to be a constant communication because what the plan is can be more, can be less, but we have an idea of what we want to get done. He has an idea of what he’d like to accomplish.”
