Guardians’ Tom Hamilton has memorable call of Tim Anderson-Jose Ramirez brawl

On a night when Jake Paul fought Nate Diaz and Amanda Serrano faced Heather Hardy, Jose Ramirez and Tim Anderson might’ve provided the Fight of the Night.

Or, arguably, the night’s most memorable moment.

Guardians radio announcer Tom Hamilton called the brawl, which was initiated by Ramirez and Anderson.

“They’re fighting! They’re swinging! Down goes Anderson!” Hamilton exclaimed on the broadcast with the vigor of Mauro Ranello calling “Showtime Championship Boxing.”

It’s as if he’s wanted to always call boxing, invoking Howard Cosell’s famous “Down Goes Frazier” call from Joe Frazier’s second-round TKO loss to George Foreman, who became the new Undisputed Heavyweight Champion in 1973.

Hamilton joined the team’s radio network prior to the 1990 season and is a seven-time NSSA Ohio Sportscaster of the Year.

He added to his legacy Saturday night with his amazing call.

The brawl happened after Ramirez’s RBI double to right field in the fifth in Chicago’s 7-4 win.

Anderson manned second base with a throw coming in from right field as Ramiez slid head first.

Ramirez nearly headbutted Anderson’s groin area, which the two-time All-Star didn’t appear to appreciate.

As the two faced off, with an umpire in between, Anderson squared up with Ramirez, and the umpire – who isn’t a referee, nor did he act like one — simply retreated and allowed them to fight.

The world has him to thank for what came next.

Anderson squared up with Ramirez in a southpaw stance and threw a jab followed by a chopping hook, but when attempting to slip out of range, the third baseman caught him with a looping right hook that dropped the Alabama native, exploiting his defensive misstep.

It should count as Anderson’s ninth defensive error of the season.

Through a translator, Ramirez seemed to imply that Anderson had it coming.

“I think he’s been disrespecting the game for a while now, it’s not just from today,” he said, via Bally Sports Cleveland. “I’ve been having the chance to tell him during the game … as the play happened, he tagged me again really hard and then he wanted to fight, so I defended myself.”

Both Ramirez and Anderson were ejected for fighting.
