At least 73 migrants are feared dead in a shipwreck off the coast of Libya on Tuesday. The official Twitter account of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) informed this on Wednesday.

The IOM said the ship was heading for Europe from Qasr Alkaira, east of Tripoli. It had about 80 passengers. 7 people from the ship managed to swim to the shore. News from AFP.

The Libyan Red Crescent and local police have recovered 11 bodies so far. 7 people who came ashore have been taken to hospital. Many would-be migrants travel by sea from Libya to Europe. On this dangerous journey, they meet a tragic end.

The IOM said 130 people have died there since the start of this year. In 2022, more than 1,450 migrants died on this route. Commenting on this situation as ‘unbearable’ IOM did.
