Russia’s neighbor and ally Belarus has claimed the destruction of an A-50 spy plane in a drone attack on an air base near the capital of Minsk.

Al Jazeera reported this information with reference to the exiled members of the opposition party of Belarus.

According to the report, Alexander Azarov, the leader of the anti-government organization Bipol in Belarus, told the Poland-based Belsat news channel on the Telegram messaging app, “Drone attacks have been carried out. Those who took part in it are citizens of Belarus.’

The Al Jazeera report, citing Minsk’s labeling of the Belsat news channel as a “terrorist” organization, also said that the Polish news channel mainly broadcasts news from Belarus.

Franak Viakorka, an adviser to Belarusian opposition leader Viatlana Sikhanouska, wrote on social media on Twitter, “A Russian aircraft was destroyed at the airfield in the Machulishche area near Minsk during a special operation.”

The Al Jazeera report noted that the authenticity of this information could not be objectively verified.

The governments of Russia and Belarus have not said anything about this ‘attack’.
