Drew Barrymore abandoned her publicists and posted a direct apology to those outraged over the return of The Drew Barrymore Show amid the ongoing WGA strike. While the talk show host is taking “full responsibility” for the situation, she did not disclose any plans to halt production.

The apology comes amid a tough week for Barrymore, who was labeled a “scab” for allegedly crossing picket lines — despite SAG-AFTRA saying she is allowed to continue her show. Aside from the social media ire, the 50 First Dates star was also dropped as host of the upcoming National Book Awards.

Barrymore — who began filming Season 4 of her show earlier this week — tearfully addressed the backlash in a lengthy Instagram video.

“I know there’s just nothing I can do that will make this OK for those it is not OK with,” she began. “I fully accept that. I fully understand that. There are so many reasons why this is so complex. And I just want everyone to know my intentions have never been in a place to upset or hurt anyone. That’s not who I am.”

As tears welled up in her eyes, Barrymore said this is just one of the many “ups and downs” she’s been through in her life, before going on to “deeply apologize” to writers and unions. The star added that she posted her message without the help of publicists or any PR team.

“I don’t exactly know what to say because sometimes when things are so tough it’s hard to make decisions from that place,” she said. “So all I can say is that I wanted to accept responsibility — and no, I don’t have a PR team behind this.”

She continued, “My decision to go back to the show — I didn’t want to hide behind people so I won’t. And I won’t polish this with bells and whistles and publicists and corporate rhetoric. I’ll just stand out there and accept and be responsible.”
