Drew Barrymore Hits “Pause” On ‘Drew Barrymore Show’ Return After Firestorm of Controversy and Complaints

Drew Barrymore has made the stunning decision to “pause” the return of The Drew Barrymore Show “until the strike is over,” according to a post made to her official Instagram page this morning.

The Drew Barrymore Show returned to taping new episodes last week after the show’s planned summer hiatus, with Drew defiantly defending her decision to return to work during the dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. “I own this choice,” she wrote in a message posted to her Instagram. “We are in compliance with not discussing or promoting film and television that is struck of any kind.” (She would later delete this message.)

The blowback was immediate, and proved to be overwhelming to Barrymore, one of the most popular and visible people in the Hollywood community. Her show was aggressively picketed by striking workers, and two audience members claim that they were “kicked out” of the show’s first taping on Monday, September 11 for wearing pro-WGA pins. She was later dumped from her duties of hosting the National Book Awards, and criticized by the co-head writer of her show for this controversial decision. (It’s worth noting that other talk shows, including The View, The Talk, and Sherri have either returned to work, or are planning to, as is Real Time With Bill Maher.)

This story is breaking, more news to follow.
