Chicago man killed in shooting at Park Forest apartment, two others in critical condition, according to police – Chicago Tribune

A 29-year-old Chicago man was shot and killed inside a Park Forest apartment early Friday while two other people were hospitalized in critical condition, police said.

Police said they responded at about 3:25 a.m. Friday to a report of shots fired in the 100 block of Fir Street, and that responding officers “found a chaotic scene with multiple individuals fleeing the area.”

Police in a news release said that investigating officers learned that an altercation involving people “attending a large house party inside a residence culminated in multiple individuals shooting firearms.”

Ladarius Williams, of Chicago, was found dead inside the residence, police said. A 19-year-old from Waukegan and a 28-year-old from Chicago were also shot, and both have undergone surgery and remain hospitalized, police said.

A 22 year-old from Chicago was treated by paramedics at the scene and refused transport to the hospital, police said.

Several firearms were recovered and several vehicles were struck by gunfire, police said.

Park Forest detectives and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force are investigating.

A resident who lives nearby, Sonia Turner, said she was awakened at about 3:30 a.m. by “lots of flashing lights” of emergency vehicles. The coop apartment units face a central courtyard and parking lot.

“There was just all sorts of police activity. I was kind of scared” Turner said.

Emmer Adams said she did not know anything had happened until waking about 6 a.m. and seeing yellow police tape blocking off the parking lot behind the apartment where she has lived in since 2003.

“We have good people living around here,” she said.

Adams said it is occasionally loud music that is the most serious disturbance.

“I have never seen anything like that happen” she said.

Another resident, who declined to give his name, said he heard at least 15 shots.

“There were so many shots at one time then I heard single shots,” he said. “Usually it’s quiet around here.”

Evidence technicians were looking Friday morning around apartment units about a half block to the north on north side of Fir.

It was not immediately clear whether gunfire was confined to the apartment, one of the many buildings in the Park Forest cooperative system. On Friday, markers were on the ground indicating found shell casings on the edge of the parking lot adjacent to the apartment.
