Authorities are still considering whether charges will be filed against a Wheeling motorist who struck a 13-year-old boy while the child was on his bike crossing the street Wednesday in Buffalo Grove, a village spokesman told Pioneer Press.

“BG Police plan to review the case with the State’s Attorney’s Office next week,”  village spokesman Tim Kirsininkas told Pioneer Press in an email.

According to a news release earlier this week, Buffalo Grove police and firefighters responded around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday to a call of a cyclist being struck by a vehicle on Weiland Road near Newton Drive.

The release states that the 13-year-old boy was on his bike in the crosswalk when he was hit by a vehicle that was traveling northbound on Weiland Road. The driver of the vehicle was identified as being a 66-year-old Wheeling resident. The driver is not named or further identified because, as of now, they are not charged with a crime.

The  driver remained at the scene and “is cooperating with authorities,” according to the release.

The boy was treated at the scene and then transported by Buffalo Grove paramedics to Lutheran General Hospital “with non-life-threatening injuries,” the release states.

Authorities did not provide any further details, including whether speeding or any impairment, including alcohol or drugs, played a role in the incident.

As of Friday, no charges have been filed and the case is currently under investigation by the Buffalo Grove Police Department’s Traffic Unit, along with the Major Crash Assistance Team, according to authorities.
