Bengals’ Joe Mixon provided gun allegedly used in shooting: lawsuit

Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon has been named in a civil lawsuit over a shooting that happened outside of his home in March, according to multiple reports.

The suit alleges that Mixon, 27, provided a gun to Lamonte Brewer, who is accused of shooting a teenager near the running back’s home in Anderson Township, Ohio.

“Joe Mixon provided the assault rifle and bullets to Lamonte Brewer knowing full well the harm that Lamonte Brewer, with an assault rifle, could do,” the lawsuit alleges, according to WLWT5.

Brewer as well as Shalonda Mixon, the running back’s sister, were indicted in March.

Brewer was charged with felonious assault, tampering with evidence and having weapons under disability while Shalonda Mixon was charged with tampering with evidence and obstructing justice, per The Enquirer.

Mixon has not been charged in the case, but is being sued by the legal guardians of the teenager for negligence and emotional distress.

The indictment says that witnesses told police officers that teenagers were playing “Nerf wars” when real gunshots were fired.

“The teenager heard multiple shots whizzing by his head and immediately ducked behind a tree, fearing for his life,” prosecutor Melissa Powers said, according to WLWT5. “It’s unbelievable that something like this could happen. It’s hard to fathom how anyone could aim a gun at a child, let alone fire 10 to 11 rounds at him. It’s a miracle he was not killed.”

The 16-year-old was shot in the foot.

Mixon’s defense attorney said that the running back was unaware of what was happening on the night of the shooting and that he had been getting death threats.

The running back is a six-year veteran with Cincinnati and rushed for 814 yards with nine total touchdowns last year.
