A nine-month-old baby died of adenovirus in West Bengal, India. The child died on Saturday (February 25) night while undergoing treatment at the Bidhan Chandra Roy (BC Roy) Children’s Hospital in Kolkata. The death certificate issued by the hospital mentions adenovirus as the cause of death.

The 9-month-old baby girl of Swapan Roy and Lakshmi Roy, residents of Udayanarayanpur in Howrah district, was admitted to the hospital on 2nd of this month. At that time, he was admitted to BC Roy Hospital, Phulbagan, Kolkata with fever. On February 11, he recovered and was discharged from the hospital.

After returning home he again developed fever. This time his fever was not decreasing at all. As a result, he was once again brought to the outpatient department of BC Roy Hospital for treatment. After initial treatment, the child was discharged from the hospital. But on February 19, when the fever did not subside, he was again admitted to Bidhan Chandra Roy (BC Roy) Children’s Hospital in Fulbagan, Kolkata.

The child’s father, Swapan Roy, said that on Saturday morning, my daughter developed a high fever. This made his body worse. At that time he needed ICU. However, the ICU bed was not empty in the hospital at that time. I talked about being taken to another hospital, but the doctors didn’t want to listen to me.

The child’s mother Lakshmi Roy alleged that the child died because the doctors did not treat her properly.

Adenovirus has been blamed for the deaths of several children earlier this month. However, there is no specific information about how many people have been killed by this virus in Kolkata so far.
