The Visva Bharati University in West Bengal, India has served an eviction notice to Nobel laureate economist Amartya Sen from his house in Santiniketan. Visva Bharati University notice reached Amartya Sen’s residence on Sunday. But Amartya Sen is currently abroad.

Anandabazar says Nobel laureate economist Amartya Sen has been served an eviction notice by Visva Bharati University. In the letter sent to Pratichi’s address, it is said that on March 29, Amartya Sen or any of his representatives should be present in the conference hall of the central admission building of Visva Bharati. The ‘disputed’ land will be heard there.

Vishwabharati’s letter claims that Amartya Sen has encroached on 13 decimals of Vishwabharti’s land. Therefore, he has been asked to know why he will not be evicted from that land in accordance with the law.

The controversy over this land of Amartya Sen is quite old. A few days ago when the Economist was in Santiniketan, a letter was sent to him by the Visva Bharati authorities. It is said that 13 deciles of land should be returned to the university soon. A huge controversy started around that notice.

In response to the letter, Amartya Sen counter-claimed that part of the land of the house should be leased from Visva Bharati and the remaining part should be purchased. Now the authorities of Visva Bharati are lying.
