All about Amazon Prime Video: Subscription, movies and shows

[ad_1]

As you may (or may not) already know, being an Amazon Prime member comes with a lot of perks.

For just $15/month or $139/year, you can unlock benefits like free same-day, one-day or two-day shipping, discounts and free shipping over $150 on groceries from Amazon Fresh, prescription savings, access to free podcasts and music, Prime Gaming and Prime Reading, Amazon Photos, exclusive deals, and more.

One of the biggest perks of Amazon Prime, though, is the Prime Video streaming service and the opportunity to subscribe to Prime Video Channels.

That’s right: also included with your Prime membership is an entire streaming service.

What is Amazon Prime Video?

Prime Video is Amazon’s streaming service, included free of charge to Amazon Prime subscribers as part of their subscription.

Prime Video has a rotating library of free-to-you movies and TV shows, in addition to their acclaimed slate of Amazon Originals. Prime Video is also home to a select slate of live Yankees games and the only place to watch Thursday Night Football.

The second major component of Prime Video is video-on-demand (VOD). If a movie or show you want to watch isn’t available as part of your Prime subscription, you can buy or rent a digital copy to stream whenever you want for an additional price. The average VOD prices range from $4 to $10, with new releases debuting from theaters at $19 to $25.

Prime Video is included with an Amazon Prime subscription, but there are a few different subscription prices to be aware of.

The most common one is a basic Amazon Prime subscription, which includes all of the perks we listed above for $15/month or $139/year.

Students who can confirm their enrollment at a university can get Amazon Prime discounted for $7.49/month or $69/year for four years following a six-month free trial.

People who receive EBT, Medicaid, NAP, and other select government assistance can also get Amazon Prime at a discounted rate of $7/month.

Finally, if Amazon Prime as a whole isn’t for you but you want to try out Prime Video, a standalone subscription is available for $9/month.

How to Sign Up For Prime Video:

Signing up for Prime Video is as easy as following a link to Amazon, making an account, choosing a plan, and supplying your credit card information to be charged following a free trial period.

Does Prime Video Have A Free Trial?

It sure does! Prime Video standalone and Amazon Prime both offer thirty-day free trials before you start paying the price of whichever plan you’re on.

If you’re a Prime Student subscriber, you’ll get a six-month free trial as opposed to the normal thirty days.

(Pro tip: You’ll need to be an Amazon Prime member to take advantage of the thousands of deals set to go active on Prime Day — July 11 and 12 — so signing up now means you’ll still be in the free trial period on the big days.)

What Devices Can You Stream Prime Video On?

  • Smart TVs from all major brands
  • Fire TV Sticks (all)
  • Echo Devices with a Screen

What Are Prime Video Channels?

In addition to everything else on Prime Video, users can also subscribe to Prime Video Channels. Over 100 channels are available, everything from Max and Starz to Britbox and Acorn TV.
