49ers vs. Raiders prediction: Snap up the underdog

[ad_1]

The 49ers travel to Las Vegas to face the Raiders on Sunday in the first preseason game for both teams.

Oddsmakers have the 49ers laying more than a field goal, but the wrong team could be favored in this matchup.

There’s no doubt San Francisco is the more talented team, but you have to wonder how many first- and second-stringers will see significant playing time.

The two teams had joint practices all week, and 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said on NFL Network he is putting much more stock in those practices than he is the game when it comes to evaluating players.

On the other side, Josh McDaniels and the Raiders are trying to get the bad taste of a 6-11 finish last season out of their mouths.

McDaniels showed last year that he puts stock into the preseason, with his team going a perfect 4-0.

I expect him to once again try and win these games, as he attempts to change the culture in Las Vegas.

San Francisco will be without starting quarterback Brock Purdy. Trey Lance will play most of the first half and Sam Darnold will see action in the second half.

Look for fourth-stringer Brandon Allen, however, to get most of the snaps after halftime.

Betting on the NFL?

I love fading Super Bowl favorites like the 49ers in the preseason when they are favorites.

Shanahan just wants to get to September without any major injuries.

I won’t be surprised if Las Vegas wins this game outright.

The pick: Raiders +3.5 (-105, BetMGM)
