2023 is set up to be a big year for women’s sports all over the world. With women’s sports growing in popularity and demand we take a look at five of the biggest women’s sporting events taking place this year.

2023 Women’s World Cup

Perhaps the biggest women’s sporting event in the world is here after a four-year wait. The tournament comes around every four years and each time it’s met with even more excitement than the tournament prior.

Australia and New Zealand are hosting the tournament together and for the first time the tournament will include 32 countries, the last two Women’s World Cups included 24 teams. The tournament will run from July 20 to August 20.

All but three nations are set with the final spots being decided with a play-off tournament that will take place in February.

The United States Women’s National Team is looking to bring home their fifth title, and third in a row but it’ll be a tough task. The world has caught up to the United States’ playing level and it will be a highly competitive and fun tournament to watch.

Wimbledon

For tennis, Wimbledon is the biggest stage in the world, it’s widely regarded as the most prestigious and it’s the oldest tournament currently going on. It’s played in England at All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club on grass courts. The exciting tournament is one of the four Grand Slam tournaments with the Australian Open, French Open, and US Open.

The tournament is an event that’s held each year but it brings a ton of excitement with each installment. This year’s Wimbledon Championships are set to be held from July 3 to July 16.

Elena Rybakina is the reigning champion in the singles tournament. Barbora Krejčíková and Kateřina Siniaková are the current doubles champions.

NCAA Women’s March Madness

Two things that go together perfectly are college basketball and March. The NCAA Tournament brings new excitement each year with many upsets and Cinderella stories.

Last year the NCAA Women’s Tournament officially received the March Madness branding and attendance was at a high. It was also the first year that the tournament pool included 68 teams.

Right now reigning champions South Carolina and Stanford seem to be the favorites but there are teams like UConn and LSU that are trending in the right direction midway through the season. This tournament could end up being the best tournament yet with many teams capable of cutting the nets.

This year’s tournament will conclude on April 2 with the final game being held in Dallas at American Airlines Center.

Women’s Finalissima

For the first time, there will be a Women’s Finalissima match in 2023. Finalissima is a match that will take place every four years and takes the tournament winners from Copa América Femenina and UEFA Women’s European Championship. It was organized by CONMEBOL (South African Football Confederation) and UEFA (The Union of European Football Associations).

The first Finalissima will have England taking on Brazil in London at Wembley Stadium on April 6.

It should be a fun matchup with both teams currently ranked in the top ten of the FIFA Women’s Rankings.

England won the Euros in a dominating fashion winning all six of their matches having only conceded two goals throughout the whole tournament. The Lionesses defeated Germany 2-1 in extra time to lift the trophy.

Brazil won the Copa América Femenina for the eighth time last year, they went through the entire tournament without conceding a goal. They defeated Colombia 1-0 in the final.

F1 Academy

Formula One racing is an international racing competition that has been around for a while but has recently gained a ton of popularity in the United States. F1 racing has been around for over 70 years and in the long history only two women have ever competed in the competition, Maria Teresa de Filiippis (1958) and Lella Lombardi (1975 and 76).

That will change this year with the development of F1 Academy, which will be an all-female category of the race. The category will include five teams that have been confirmed to be ART Grand Prix (France), Campos Racing (Spain), Carlin (Great Britain), NP Motorsport (Netherlands), and Prema Racing (Italy).

There will be fifteen drivers with seven events set to take place throughout the year.

It’s an exciting addition to Formula One that will allow women to have opportunities in the sport.

2023 will also be a big year for women’s sports betting with most of these events likely being available on at least some sportsbooks. Right now sportsbooks offer future odds for the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament, Wimbledon, and the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
